In this position, Adam is responsible for developing new business opportunities and managing the Consulting and Engineering Services/Design groups.  He is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist (#2017-228-222) and a NACE Coatings Inspector CIP Level 2 (#23286). He holds a B.S. in Materials Science/Engineering from the University of Tennessee, an MS in Polymer Engineering from the University of Akron, and has over 10 years of experience in the protective coatings industry. Mr. Beers has been providing coating and structural condition assessment services for KTA on water tanks, fuel storage tanks, natural gas compressor stations, research facilities, power plants, and other structures for approximately four years. Prior to joining KTA, Mr. Beers held a technical service role with a coatings manufacturer in which he provided services to a wide variety of industries across North and South America.  Adam is also bilingual (English/Spanish). | Contact Me

Rick A. Huntley – Technical Manager of Consulting Services

Rick Huntley is the Technical Manager of Consulting Services and a Senior Coatings Consultant for KTA where he has been employed for over 20 years. He is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review) and an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist. In his current position, Rick is responsible for managing a staff of coating consultants which involves technical review of proposals/reports and project management. He also performs consulting activities that include coating failure analysis, coating condition assessments, coating system recommendations and specification preparation review, and expert witness testimony. Rick has consulted on major marine coating projects, bridge coating projects, condominium and housing project rehabilitations, and parking garage renovations. He has also conducted coating specification review for highway departments, water districts, A&E firms, and various manufacturers. He is a primary instructor for various KTA training courses, an SSPC NBP1-approved instructor, and holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Washington State University. | Contact Me

James D. Machen – Senior Consultant

Jim Machen is a Senior Coatings Consultant with KTA where he has been employed for over 20 years. He is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review), an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist, and is a Level II Inspector in accordance with in accordance with ASTM D4537. In his current position, Jim performs consulting activities (i.e., coating failure analysis, coating system recommendations, specification preparation, and major project management) for a variety of clients in the transportation, water and waste, power generation, chemical processing, and marine industries. His specification development experience includes the preparation of technical painting specifications for numerous water and chemical storage tanks, bridges, and other heavy industrial, commercial, and architectural applications. Jim serves as a principal instructor for several in-house KTA coatings training seminars for private and public companies. Jayson L. Helsel, P.E. – Senior Consultant

Jay Helsel is a Senior Coatings Consultant with KTA where he has been employed for over 10 years. He is a registered Professional Engineer in numerous states,an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS), and he is also a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review). Jay has extensive marine and shipboard experience having served 11 years in the Coast Guard, most recently as a Lieutenant Commander in the area of Marine Vessel Inspection. At KTA, he has managed the field investigations and laboratory analyses of coating failure cases, including those of a major automobile manufacturer and luxury home developer. Jay has also been involved with coating condition assessments, inspections of industrial structures, and contractor painting submittal reviews. He serves as a principal instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training courses and has authored numerous technical articles in industry publications. Richard A. Burgess – Senior Consultant

Rich Burgess is a Senior Consultant for KTA where he has been employed for over 18 years. Rich is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review), an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS), an SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person for Deleading of Industrial Structures, is a principal instructor for the SSPC C-1, C-3, and C-5 courses, and is an approved instructor for the NACE CIP Program. He also serves as an instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training seminars. In his current position, Rich performs coatings evaluations, coating failure analysis, specification preparation, expert witness, and project management services for clients in the transportation, power generation, water/wastewater, shipping, marine, and aerospace industries. He has served as Project Manager/Inspector Supervisor on projects that involved surface preparation and repainting of highway bridges for DOTs and has performed coating evaluation assessments for ground and elevated potable water storage tanks. E. Bud Senkowski, P.E. – Senior Consultant

Bud Senkowski is a Senior Consultant with KTA where he has been employed from over 16 years. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in several states; a Certified Nuclear Coatings Engineer; and is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review). As a Senior Consultant, Bud performs paint failure analysis and corrective recommendations, laboratory and field paint testing, specification writing/review, coating application inspection, and training of inspectors and coating personnel. He has over 35 years of coating engineering, inspection, training, and project management experience with KTA and previously with Philadelphia Electric Company and Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. He also has an extensive background in the engineering, application, and inspection of coatings and linings used in nuclear and fossil-based service water and chemical storage facilities, and he is the primary instructor for KTA’s Nuclear Inspection training course. Raymond S. Tombaugh – Senior Consultant

Ray Tombaugh is a Senior Consultant for KTA where he has been employed for 10 years. He is a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review), an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS), and an ASTM D4537 Level III Inspector with over 28 years in the protective coatings industry. In his current position, Ray provides coatings-related services (including coating failure analysis, coating assessments, specification preparation for paint and lead-based paint removal, laboratory and field paint testing, project management, and expert witness testimony) to a variety of clients with special expertise in the Water and Power industries. Prior to joining KTA, Ray was a Senior Engineer for the Pennsylvania Power & Light Company, where he was responsible for coatings and corrosion engineering at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, PP&L’s nuclear power plant. He was also responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive coatings control program, developing coating procedures and specifications, conducting corrosion and metallurgical analyses, performing coatings inspection, and selecting coating systems for use in the plant. Robert S. Lanterman – Coatings Consultant

Robert Lanterman is a Coatings Consultant for KTA. He is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS), a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 3 (Peer Review) with Marine endorsement.  In this capacity, he continues to perform coating condition assessment services, conducts coating failure investigations, and provides litigation support and specification preparation/review services for the Consulting Services Department.  Prior to his current assignment, Rob served as a Project Engineer for Materials Design Evaluation, Inc. (MDE), a KTA employee spin-off company. His responsibilities included the oversight of the design, fabrication installation, and repair of industrial equipment; preparation and review of engineering design drawings and calculations for compliance with industry standards, specifications, and regulations; field inspection and failure analysis services; and development of laboratory testing protocols and data analysis. Christina M. Stewart – Coatings Consultant

Chrissy Stewart is a Coatings Consultant living in the Southern Florida area. She is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS), and holds NACE CIP Level 1 certification.  In her current position, Chrissy performs coating condition assessment services, conducts coating failure investigations, and provides litigation support and specification preparation/review services for the Consulting Services Department.  Previously, Chrissy served as a Senior Chemist with the KTA Laboratory for over 10 years. Her responsibilities included testing of coatings to determine conformance to specifications (using ASTM and various other standard test methods), and analytical testing to determine the cause of coating failures. Instrumentation utilized includes microscopes (optical and scanning electron) spectrometers, chromatographs, and various wet bench methods. She has worked on numerous coating failure investigations some of which involved litigation support and expert witness testimony. In addition to failure investigations, she has conducted and coordinated complex product testing programs. She routinely provided technical support to the KTA coatings consulting staff. Chrissy has spent several years on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Society for Coatings Technology (PSCT), is a member of ASTM International where she is the technical contact for ASTM D6580, “Standard Test Method for The Determination of Metallic Zinc Content in Both Zinc Dust Pigment and in Cured Films of Zinc-Rich Coatings,” and a member SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings.
