Cindy O’Malley is Vice President and the Group Manager of the Professional Services Business Unit for KTA where she has been employed for more than 20 years. In this position she is responsible for administration and management of the Professional Services Departments.  Her direct involvement with consulting and laboratory services includes managing coating failure investigation services some of which involve litigation support and expert witness testimony. Under Cindy’s direction, consultants, scientists, chemists and research & development specialists provide clients with independent analyses of coatings problems and advance the industry’s understanding of the performance characteristics of protective coatings and abrasive media. Cindy is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist, is currently serving as the chairman of ASTM D01.23 which is the subcommittee for chemical analysis of coatings, Vice-Chair of STG 04 on Surface Preparation for NACE International, Past-President of the Pittsburgh Society for Coatings Technology, and a regular lecturer on the application of analytical chemistry to paint and coating failures, and physical testing methods. Cindy is currently pursuing an Executive MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, holds a B.S. from Pennsylvania State University and is a member of KTA’s Fundraising and HealthierYou wellness committees.| Contact Me

Robert B. Leggat, III, PhD – KTA Laboratory Services Manager

Robert Leggat is the KTA Laboratory Services Manager and has over 15 years of experience in the protective coatings industry.  He holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Virginia and successfully completed the KTA Level I Basic Coatings Inspection training course.  Mr. Leggat joined KTA in August 2016 as the Laboratory Services Manager overseeing the operations of the Analytical and Physical Testing Laboratories.  In this position, he oversees all laboratory services which include paint, corrosion and material testing services, coating failure investigations, coatings research, and compositional analysis. Under his oversight, senior chemists, chemists, and research and development specialists provide clients with independent, accurate analyses of coating problems and advance the industry’s understanding of the performance characteristics of protective coatings and abrasive media. Valerie D. Sherbondy – Senior Chemist

Valerie Sherbondy is a Senior Chemist for KTA where she has been employed for 20 years. She is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist and has worked on hundreds of coating failure analysis projects in addition to conducting and supervising numerous product testing programs. Val routinely provides technical support to the KTA Pittsburgh consulting staff, as well as to all of the region offices. She also serves as the Laboratory Quality Assurance Officer, overseeing the A2LA and NELEC accreditations of the laboratory. Val is a member of the American Chemical Society, the SSPC: Society for Protective Coatings, and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). She is also a committee chair for NACE International and an instructor for a variety of KTA-offered training seminars. Julie A. Glover – Analytical Technician

Julie Glover is a Analytical Technician in KTA’s Analytical Laboratory where she has been employed for 11 years. In this position, duties include testing of coatings to verify compliance with the specifications (ASTM and various other methods), and the performance of analytical testing to determine the cause of coating failures. Instrumentation utilized includes microscopes (optical and scanning electron) spectrometers, chromatographs, and various wet bench methods. Previous experience includes Undergraduate Research involving the synthesis and characterization of new classes of macrocyclic ligands, synthesized electronic and steric modifications to known macrocycles as well as serving as a laboratory technician for a sewage treatment plant and the U.S. Army Reserve as a lab petroleum specialist for over 16 years .  Julie served as the Education and Scholarship chair of the Pittsburgh Society for Coatings Technology (PSCT) during 2013 – 2015, and is a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).  She has a B.S. in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College in Erie, PA.| Contact Me

Christina M. Stewart – Chemist

Chrissy Stewart is a Senior Chemist in KTA’s Analytical Laboratory where she has been employed for over 10 years. In this position, Chrissy is responsible for the testing of coatings to determine conformance to specifications (using ASTM and various other standard test methods), and analytical testing to determine the cause of coating failures. Instrumentation utilized includes microscopes (optical and scanning electron) spectrometers, chromatographs, and various wet bench methods. She has worked on numerous coating failure investigations some of which involved litigation support and expert witness testimony.   In addition to failure investigations, she has conducted and coordinated complex product testing programs. She routinely provides technical support to the KTA coatings consulting staff. Chrissy has spent several years on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Society for Coatings Technology (PSCT), is a member of ASTM International where she is the technical contact for ASTM D6580, “Standard Test Method for The Determination of Metallic Zinc Content in Both Zinc Dust Pigment and in Cured Films of Zinc-Rich Coatings,” and a member SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings, through which she is a certified Protective Coatings Specialist.  She has a B.S. in Chemistry from Mercyhurst University. | Contact Me

Cheryl L. Roberts – Senior Chemist/QA Officer

Cheryl Roberts has been working at the KTA Laboratory for three years as a Senior Chemist/ and two years as the Laboratory QA Officer. She is responsible for conducting and supervising product testing programs, providing technical support to the consulting staff, and  maintaining the A2LA and NELEC accreditations of the laboratory. Prior to joining KTA, Cheryl was a Chemistry Laboratory Instructor for Duquesne University and a Physics teacher at Trinity High School. Other past positions include serving as an Engineer I in Exploratory Research for PPG Industries where she supervised and provided engineering support for a polymerization pilot plant and serving as a Process Engineer in the Bulk Manufacturing Division for Eli Lilly and Company. Cheryl has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters in Chemical Engineering and Colloids, Polymers, and Surfaces from Carnegie Mellon University. | Contact Me

Carly M. McGee – Materials & Physical Testing Laboratory Supervisor

Carly McGee is the Materials & Physical Testing Laboratory Supervisor for KTA where she has been employed for 12 years. In this position, Carly is responsible for facility operations including abrasive blast-cleaning and coating of specimens, corrosive and accelerated weathering exposure of specimens, and evaluation of exposed panels. Carly is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist, American Concrete Institute Certified Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1, a member of ASTM Committees G01 (Corrosion of Metals) and C09 (Concrete and Concrete Aggregates), and a member of the Research Council for Structural Connections. She has over twelve years experience in coatings analysis (including materials testing and failure analysis). Carly also has experience with copper refining analysis; the manufacturing and analysis of petroleum distillates; infrared spectroscopy, inductively-coupled plasma-atomic emissions spectroscopy, gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy; scanning electron microscopy; corrosion testing methods; statistical design of experiments and analysis of data; testing and evaluations according to ASTM, ISO, military specifications, and various other methods; and operation and verification of accelerated exposure equipment. Chad S. Quatman – Project Manager/Coating Application Specialist

Chad Quatman  joined the KTA Laboratory nearly three years ago and is a Project Manager/Coating Application Specialist. In this position, he is responsible for performing inspection, testing and documentation for various test panel projects. He is also responsible for preparation of test specimens, via conventional and airless spray applications, physical and analytical testing, invoicing/collections, and preparation of proposals and report.  Prior to joining KTA, Chad served as a Laboratory Technician in multiple Coatings Groups at Bayer Material Science performing such duties as mixing formulations, spray applications, operating high and low intensity curing equipment, performing tests and recording data results. Chad received an Occupational Associate Degree in Specialized Technology from Bidwell Training Center, Inc. through their Chemical Laboratory Technician Program. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Phoenix. Dan Chasky joined the KTA Laboratory in the 2012 as a Project Manager/Coating Application Specialist. Kaley M. Stanczyk – Chemical Technician

Kaley Stanczyk is a Chemical Technician working in KTA’s Analytical Laboratory since 2013.  In this position, duties include the testing of coatings to verify compliance with specifications (ASTM and various other standard test methods) as well as analytical testing to determine the cause of coating failures.  Instrumentation utilized includes microscopes (optical and scanning electron), spectrometers, chromatographs, and various wet bench methods.  Kaley also has experience with in site testing including high temperature, high pressure exposure of pipeline coatings using KTA’s autoclave.  She is a member of Pittsburgh Society for Coatings Technology (PSCT), is the current Chair of NACE – Pittsburgh Section, and is a NACE Certified Coating Inspector – Level 2.  Her previous experience includes working as a Laboratory Technician in a waste characterization laboratory testing soil, water, coal and sludge.  She has a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the Pennsylvania State University with a minor in Biology. | Contact Me

Julia Baur joined the KTA Analytical Laboratory in 2015 as a Chemical Technician. Joshua Cookson – Project Manager/Coating Application Specialist

Josh Cookson joined KTA’s Laboratory in 2016 as a Project Manager/Coating Application Specialist. In this position, he is responsible for testing and documenting the durability and performance of test panels and coatings both before and after application. Josh is also responsible for the maintenance of Q-Fog and Salt-Fog accelerated weathering cabinets used in KTA’s panel testing. While he must comply with ASTM Standards for most projects, he also helps plan and execute customized testing as per clients’ special requests. Prior to joining KTA, Josh worked with PPG’s Color Services Lab, where he matched and formulated new colors and paint effects for PPG’s various industrial coatings. Tamilyn Rossetti– Senior Administrative Assistant

Tamilyn Rossetti joined KTA in 2015 as a Senior Administrative Assistant for Laboratory Services.  In this role, she primarily assists Analytical and Physical laboratory personnel with drafting, copy-editing, and disseminating technical reports and proposals to KTA’s valued clients.  Additionally, Tamilyn supervises administrative staff, maintains all electronic documents, updates Salesforce database, and completes a variety of complex projects for the department.  Previously, she was the Coordinator for Clearview Investment Advisors, the wealth management program at Clearview Federal Credit Union, and she brings to KTA over 15 years of writing, editing, administrative support and communications experience.  Tamilyn holds a B.A. in Journalism and Communications from Point Park University.  Contact Me
